Home Energy Audits:

 

Provincial governments offer grants up to $5,000 for increasing energy efficiency of existing homes. The deferral ecoENERGY grant amount is based on specific upgrades made by the homeowner and confirmed by the post-retrofit evaluation. The Ontario government refunds half of the initial evaluation cost.

Together, the Welland Conservation Committee and Welland Hydro will offer an incentive for the initial home energy audits to the residents of Welland. The audits will be conducted by Green Venture, a non profit and non-biased third party ecoENERGY home evaluator. Green Venture’s Certified Energy Advisors are trained in building science and have used the federal government’s residential energy efficiency advice and rating system since 1997.

The program will provide 50 homeowners, on a first-come first-serve basis, with a $100 incentive towards the initial Home Energy Audit, lowering the audit cost to $225. The homeowner could also be eligible to receive an additional $150 incentive from the province. For more details on provincial grant please visit www.homeenergyontario.com.

STEPS FOR RESIDENTS TO COMPLETE HOME ENERGY AUDIT:

1. Contact the City of Welland for verification of qualification at (905) 735-1700 ext. 2319.
    
2. You will be verified to ensure that you are eligible for the rebate (to quality residents must live within City of Welland boundaries).
    
3. Green Venture collects payment from you for your First Evaluation service: $335 and conducts the First Evaluation.
    
4. Green Venture will process your Ontario Home Energy Savings Program grant application form which subsequently qualifies you for provincial grants based on the recommended completed upgrades and a follow up audit.
    
5. Green Venture provides the City a copy of your Ontario grant application form as well as an ongoing report for total subsidized audits completed to date.
    
6. City of Welland will use the data provided, having confirmed that you are eligible in step 2, to directly issue you a $100 rebate payment.
    
7. At this point, Green Venture will continue to work with you to encourage recommended energy saving retrofits, complete the follow up evaluation (which costs an additional $175, payable by you), and process associated provincial grant forms to expedite resident grants of up to $5,000.
